The Curse is Over, but the Legend Lives on!

The 2016 Cubs won the World Series with a little help from the “Good Luck Goat” and Sam’s “Reverse the Curse” ceremony. Now that the season is back, watch all the games at Billy Goat Tavern – the most legendary baseball bar in the country.

Here’s the moment the Curse was broken from inside Billy Goat Tavern:

We have the best seats in the house. Why spend the money to buy Rooftop seats, when you can use our Stooltop seats?

Visit any of our locations around Chicago. Good luck Cubs on another championship season!

The Goats of Billy Goat Tavern

From the day the first goat stumbled into the Tavern, the Billy Goat Inn became a circus of animals. There were numerous goats, from beer drinking to dollar bill eating, but mostly beer drinking. An avid animal lover, Billy offered the tavern as their home. A long line of Goats from Billy “the original” to Murphy “The goat curse” have always been a regular staple at the legendary Tavern.

1984 – EIGHT OUTS AWAY

The Tribune Company, new owners of the Cubs, finally invited the goat to opening day at Wrigley Field in an attempt to lift the curse, Sam Sianis and his goat finally walked the grass of Wrigley Field.  Sam raised his hat and said, “The curse is lifted.” The Cubs won and won and won their way to their first post season game and division title in almost forty years.  Sam and the goat again walked the field during Game 1 of the playoffs resulting in 2 consecutive home wins, but when they were left behind in Chicago while the cubs got swept in San Diego.  With 8 eights left to get to the World Series, a routine ground ball went through the legs of first baseman, Leon Durham, sealing the fate of the cursed cubs and ending their World Series hopes.

Congratulations MVP Kris Bryant!

Congratulations Kris Bryant on winning the MVP Award!!

This is even more proof that the goat is good luck! In 2015, Kris embraced the goat in the minors resulting in his rookie of the year award.

In 2016 he again embraced the goat and won the MVP Award!

Oh and by the way…which player made the final out to finally end the curse? Kris Bryant!

The Magic of the 2016 World Series has Connections to the Curse’s Past.

We are very happy the cubs won the way they did and the cursed is reversed.  The goat was always meant to be a good luck charm which is why Billy “Goat” Sianis took the goat to the game in 1945 so they could finally win the world series after losing 7 series since 1908. The curse became a legend gradually as the cubs kept losing since the moment the cubs kicked the goat out in 1945. We’ve recently noticed some connections to the past:

  • The last time the Chicago Cubs won a World Series game prior to this year was in 1945 on 10/8 (108) in extra innings…the score was 8 to 7……In 2016 the Cubs won the World Series in extra innings to break the 108 year drought…the score was 8 to 7.
  • Game 4 1945, after a brief rain delay, the goat was kicked out because the rain caused the goat to smell and fans were complaining.  This year after a brief rain delay the cubs won the world series.
  • October 22 is an important day:
    – 10/22/1970 – Billy “Goat” Sianis passes away
    – 10/22/2011 – Theo Epstein signs with Cubs
    – 10/22/2016 – The Chicago cubs clinch the pennant for the first time since 1945

Olaf Logan, Frain usher, stops William Sianis, owner of the Billy Goat Tavern at 1855 W. Madison Street from entering the ball park October 12, 1945. Sianis crashed the gate but could not seat the goat in the box. Sianis is going to sue. Tribune file photo. (baseball World Series, Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers)
