Before the Turkey, Head to the Goat. Celebrate Beersgiving at Billy Goat!

Great food. Cold beer. No relatives. Join us for the Beersgiving tradition!

It’s time to kick off Thanksgiving with Beersgiving! The evening before Thanksgiving is traditionally a time to enjoy a beer (or several) with friends. Celebrate it at the bar where it all began – the Billy Goat Tavern.

The tradition was founded by customers at the Billy Goat Tavern on Washington and Franklin. Unfortunately that location is closed, but the celebration continues at our other 9 locations. The traditional feast of Beersgiving is of course a cheezborger and cheeps!

Thanks for Beersgiving!

The Magic of the 2016 World Series has Connections to the Curse’s Past.

We are very happy the cubs won the way they did and the cursed is reversed.  The goat was always meant to be a good luck charm which is why Billy “Goat” Sianis took the goat to the game in 1945 so they could finally win the world series after losing 7 series since 1908. The curse became a legend gradually as the cubs kept losing since the moment the cubs kicked the goat out in 1945. We’ve recently noticed some connections to the past:

  • The last time the Chicago Cubs won a World Series game prior to this year was in 1945 on 10/8 (108) in extra innings…the score was 8 to 7……In 2016 the Cubs won the World Series in extra innings to break the 108 year drought…the score was 8 to 7.
  • Game 4 1945, after a brief rain delay, the goat was kicked out because the rain caused the goat to smell and fans were complaining.  This year after a brief rain delay the cubs won the world series.
  • October 22 is an important day:
    – 10/22/1970 – Billy “Goat” Sianis passes away
    – 10/22/2011 – Theo Epstein signs with Cubs
    – 10/22/2016 – The Chicago cubs clinch the pennant for the first time since 1945

Olaf Logan, Frain usher, stops William Sianis, owner of the Billy Goat Tavern at 1855 W. Madison Street from entering the ball park October 12, 1945. Sianis crashed the gate but could not seat the goat in the box. Sianis is going to sue. Tribune file photo. (baseball World Series, Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers)

Happy Birthday to Billy Goat under Michigan Avenue!

For 52 years, Chicago’s favorite haunt hasn’t been on Michigan Avenue, it’s been under it!

On March 4th, 1964 Billy Goat Sianis moved his tavern to the current subterranean Michigan Avenue location. The original Billy Goat was located on Madison Street, across from the Chicago Stadium. Thanks to the large following of newspaper men who were regulars at the Billy Goat, it was only natural that the new location be situated between the Tribune and Sun-Times buildings.
